At Joybilee Farm, we specialize in coloured fleeces from wool breed sheep.  We breed for a long, lustre fleece that is also soft and easy to spin.  By using a long wool Cotswold/Romney ram one season and a soft, fine, rambouillet ram the next we keep the soft hand of the fleece while adding lustre and ease for handspinning.

This is a handspinning flock and we shear the sheep ourselves to ensure a stress free shearing time for our animals, and a prime fleece for our customers.  Our fall fleeces are clean, with only a minimum of vm as our flock is on pasture from lambing until October frosts.  These are by far the nicest handspinning fleeces of the year and the 2008 fleeces are the nicest we've ever seen at Joybilee Farm.

There are three different styles of fleece based on the crimp pattern of the locks.  All are xbred lambs’ fleeces and soft, suitable for next to the skin wear.  The Rambouillet type fleeces have a tight crimp with lots of bounce.  The Romney type are all fine Romney with a close crimp but about ½ the crimp of the Rambouillet, with luster.  The Cotswold type have a more wavy crimp with a longer overall staple length, and luster.

Coloured lamb's fleeces have sunbleached tips and darker colouring along the length of the staple.  A few are beginning to silver near the cut end.  Great fleeces for spinning in the grease or from the lock.

Lamb fleeces will be sheared at the end of October.  Check back then for a complete listing of our available fresh fleeces.  Or email me for immediate information on fleece availability.
