The Linen Festival - August 7, 2010

10am to 5pm
at Joybilee Farm

Admission: $7 for the day or $25 per family

guest speakers, artisans, linen fashion

Where does your clothing come from?
Field, fiber animal or a chemical factory?  Come see natural linen culture and production.  Join in the excitement of breaking linen, spin a bit and make a bracelet.

Linen is more eco-friendly than hemp.  It grows organically, and sustainably to produce a smooth, breathable and durable fiber for exquisite clothing, bags and home textiles.  A true sustainable luxury that's perfect for the Canadian climate.

11am Guest Speaker Randy Cowan from Crop Fibers Canada will be talking about what's happening in Saskatchewan with research to reclaim the strong linen fibers from oil seed flax for industrial and textile use.  Randy is very knowledgable about linen culture and will be demonstrating on an antique Doukhobor flax break.

Linen Flax seed will be available for sale in large quantities.  If you want enough to plant an acreage let me know ahead of the festival date so that Randy can bring extra bags of seed with him.  A 25 kg. bag is $80.  All certified seed for planting in Canada has been tested and found 100% free of GMOs.

We are also trying to organize an artisan market for the event.  Let me know if you want to set up a booth space.  Cost is $25 per space to off set the cost of advertising and renting a port-a-potty for the event.  Rustic camping available for Friday and Saturday night. (no hook ups)
